Infinity Ward says new CoD engine would be 'counter productive'

Infinity Ward has indicated that it has no intention of cobbling together a fresh game engine for its mammoth-selling Call of Duty franchise.

In fact, the troubled developer’s creative strategist, Robert Bowling, has insisted that building a new engine would actually prove “counter productive.”

Bowling’s comments come via a post on his Twitter page, specifically in response to a fan who offered, "someone just needs to spend the $ and construct a new engine for the CoD franchise... Ground up.”

In his reply, Bowling wrote: "That would be counter productive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right."

In case you didn’t know, every Call of Duty game since the series’ second instalment has utilized a modified version of the Infinity Ward engine, hence the reason it seems many folk are keen to see things revamped.

Elsewhere, Bowling also asserted he has no plans to jump ship to Respawn, after being quizzed by fans on his current employment status.

"I work at Infinity Ward and plan to remain here. We've got a great team and working on a great project,” he commented.

Infinity Ward’s yet to lift the lid on its next entry in the CoD franchise, though rumors are rife that the studio is busy hammering away on a sequel to Modern Warfare 2 alongside Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software.
