Xperia Play announced for April
The Xperia Play has been formally unveiled by Sony Ericsson.
The device, which will run the Android Gingerbread v2.3 OS, will be the first PlayStation Certified smartphone, according to Eurogamer.
As well as making use of the PlayStation Suite service for downloadable PSone titles, it will be supported by 50 games this spring.
Confirmed titles include The Sims 3, FIFA 10, Guitar Hero, Need For Speed, Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell.
It will feature a touch screen and a sliding mechanism hiding a D-pad, face buttons, left and right shoulder pads and two analogue touch inputs in the centre.
The device will run on a Snapdragon 1GHz processor with an optimised Adreno graphical processor for 60 frames-per-second gameplay.
"I am delighted to see Xperia Play as the first PlayStation certified smartphone hit the market," said SCE president Kaz Hirai.
"Xperia Play provides a unique consumer offering and is yet another example of great products and services coming to market that leverage Sony's strong assets."
The Xperia Play, which will be released in certain regions next month, will launch in the UK through Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and O2 in April.
